CLERGY CARE

Clergy Coaching

Clergy face difficult stressors and often have few resources with whom to share their struggles. Clergy Coaches provide that safe, listening ear and trained supportive person to determine the next best steps on your journey.  We are ecumenical in our approach and follow best practices developed by International Coaching Federation (ICF).

Clergy Candidate Assessment
The Turner Ministry Resource Center (TMRC) offers specialized clergy assessment and career development services for people preparing for missions and ministry as well as those already involved in ministry. Either the individual clergy member or the denominational office may request these services.

The TMRC provides testing for candidates seeking ordination or placement in the mission field. Testing provides insight into an individual's leadership abilities, personality type and psychological fitness as well as his/her preparation for ministry. Once a candidate completes the testing, he/she will meet with a clinician for an additional evaluation. Candidate referral should be completed by the denomination.

Vocational counseling can provide direction or affirmation of a current job for pastors or other religious professionals. We are happy to assist in the evaluation process of one's current position in the ministry by offering counseling and testing services. This service is available by individual or denominational request.

To schedule a psychological assessment or vocational counseling or to inquire about costs, contact us at mrc@pilink.org, 706-649-6360 or 1-800-649-6446.

Clergy In Kairos
Kairos:
an ancient Greek word meaning “the right or opportune moment;” “the time in between;” when “something special” happens. The Turner Ministry Center’s Clergy in Kairos program is a continuum of care for clergy, providing support for pastors in the early years of their ministry and for those seasoned pastors looking to enrich their ministry and for those experiencing a crisis along their ministry path. The Clergy in Kairos program is comprised of three components: Clergy in Crisis, Clergy in Transition, and Clergy in Formation.
  • Clergy in Formation
The Clergy in Formation program addresses those who are considering a call to the ministry. The week provides the participant an opportunity to concentrate on his or her spiritual direction, while receiving thorough psychological assessments and vocational counseling.

  • Clergy in Transition
At some point in their ministry, clergy members may find themselves at a point of transition, needing to devote energy to their own personal growth or to the enrichment of their calling. The TMRC provides a Clergy Renewal week for ministers who are looking for a period of discernment and reflections as they consider possible changes in their life – moving between churches, family transitions, mid-life retirement, etc.

  • Clergy in Crisis
The Clergy in Crisis program provides a personalized week of intensive dialogue in a relaxing setting where physical, emotional, relational and spiritual well-being can be restored. All clergy are eligible for this program. (Some attend a couple’s track when desired, for intensive work on their marital relationship.) Whether there’s marital stress, a struggle with a call being terminated or other crisis, this program offers an oasis of refreshment and reinvigoration.
Clergy and Denominational Training
The Turner Ministry Resource Center provides professional education programs for clergy-persons and for denominational or judicatory meetings.  Each one is tailored for the audience. Topics include: staff development workshops, refreshers on Marriage Preparation, ministry to the bereaved, Enneagram profile and the church, and Myers-Briggs Type Inventory workshops. We also work with congregations on a variety of issues including (but not limited to) strategic planning, missioning/visioning and leadership development for lay-leaders (see below). Additional topics are available by specific speakers

Clergy and Family Counseling
“You can’t lead someone out of the desert if you haven’t been there.”
– Henri Nouwen observed in his classic book Wounded Healers.

For clergy and their families who face the rough and tumble demands of parish life and the unique pressures and responsibilities of parish ministry, it is important for the counselor to know the territory. Pastoral Counselors with experience in the pastorate combined with clinical training and years of experience specializing in work with clergy and their families are here to help.  Crisis intervention, personal growth, vocational coaching and spiritual direction are offered.

Please contact us at mrc@pilink.org, 706-649-6360 or 1-800-649-6446 for additional information or for assistance in scheduling and finding the right counselor to work with you or your family members.

Clergy Support Group
